How does Sudocrem® Antiseptic Healing Cream work?
Sudocrem® is clinically proven to soothe, help heal and protect. It works in three simple ways:
• It contains an emollient and an astringent that soothes sore or inflamed skin.
• It works as a mild local anaesthetic to help ease pain and irritation.
• A water-repellent base forms a protective barrier, helping to stop any irritants coming into contact with the skin.

Why is Sudocrem® called Sudocrem®?
Sudocrem® was invented by a Dublin pharmacist called Thomas Smith in 1931. He originally called his unique formula “Smith’s Cream” and then quickly changed it again to “Soothing Cream”. Dubliners pronounced “Soothing Cream” as “Sudo cream” and this name stuck. The name officially changed in 1950 to Sudocrem®.
Does Sudocrem® Antiseptic Healing Cream have any known side effects?
Side effects of Sudocrem® Antiseptic Healing Cream include local hypersensitivity occasionally. No cases of overdose have been reported. If large amounts are swallowed accidentally, this may cause vomiting, diarrhoea, CNS stimulation and convulsions. Symptomatic treatment should be provided. The ingredients in Antiseptic Healing Cream are: Zinc oxide, Benzyl alcohol, Benzyl benzoate, Benzyl cinnamate, Lanolin, Purified Water, Sodium Benzoate, Paraffin wax, Microcrystalline wax, Heavy Liquid Paraffin, Synthetic Beeswax, Sorbitan sesquioleate, Propylene glycol, Antioxidant (Formulation consisting of Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), Citric acid and Propylene Glycol), Linalyl acetate, and Lavender fragrance.
Is Sudocrem® antiseptic?
Yes, Sudocrem® Antiseptic Healing Cream contains benzyl alcohol which is an antiseptic. Due to the antiseptic properties, it helps treat and prevent infections. It is also a local anaesthetic which helps reduce discomfort.
