Make a Leaf Scrapbook

Take your whole family for a walk and look for leaves. You’ll find plenty, so add in activities like who can find the most leaves, who can find the most different leaves, and who can find the most perfect leaf. Take all your leaves and stick them into a scrap book. Try to identify all the different types of leaves you’ve collected.

Make a Bird Feeder

As the leaves are falling off the trees, the birds can start feeling a little hungry. Bird feeders can be fun to make, and your little ones will enjoy seeing how many different types of bird visit your garden. You can make a simple bird feeder by tying string around a pinecone. Cover the pinecone in peanut butter and roll it in bird seed. Hang it up outside in your garden.

Build a Blanket Fort

Gather up all your blankets and cushions and make a blanket fort in the middle of your living room. Get everyone settled down in their own section of the fort, get a huge bowl of popcorn and put on one of your favourite Autumn or Halloween themed movies.

Make Toffee Apples

Toffee apples are delicious, and the perfect treat for an autumn evening. Skewer as many apples as needed, and dip them into melted toffee. Make sure the toffee is melted enough to coat the apples, but cool enough that it won’t burn little fingers. Let your little ones add sprinkles, mini marshmallows, or whatever other treats to their apples. Then set onto baking paper until the toffee is cooled and hardened.

Bake

Autumn baking smells beautiful and tastes even better. This is the perfect season to get into the kitchen with your little ones and bake up a storm. Try out new cookie cutters with gingerbread men. Make a tasty apple cake for dessert. Try out some new autumn themed recipes or make a batch of cinnamon swirls and warm them up for a delicious breakfast.

Make Autumn Themed Playdough

Playdough is so easy to make at home!

Ingredients

200g plain flour

50g salt

140ml water

1 or 2 tablespoons of sunflower or vegetable oil

Food colouring

Method

Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl. Make a well.

Add food colouring to water.

Add the water and oil.

Knead until smooth. You may need to add water or flour until you have the right consistency.

Leave in the fridge until chilled.

To make a more autumny playdough you can add spices to the flour. Try making playdough with ground cinnamon, ground ginger, nutmeg, or ground cloves. It will smell amazing and encourage your little ones to use all their senses when playing with it.

Playdough will keep for quite a long time, but you’ll need to be sure to keep it in an airtight container in the fridge.
